This interactive series of workshops and small group discussions will focus on topics particularly relevant to rural, small scale or resource limited farmers markets. This event will take place immediately prior to the Annual OFMA Meeting, so plan to stay for the evening program where there will be even more opportunities to network and exchange resources and stories with other farmers market managers and organizers.

Engaged Boards and Effective Management
In this workshop we will explore Boards of Directors; how they can be organized, what they should be doing and more importantly what they shouldn't. The focus will be on smaller organizations with limited resources and how they can make the most of what they have. As time allows, we will also look at what a market can do to streamline management tasks and be efficient and effective for both their vendors and their community. This will be interactive, and the aim is to give the participants some tangible things to take back to their organizations as soon as they get home!

Budget Building and Revision: making ends meet
Budget creation and revision strategies and examples specific to small, rural and limited resource farmers markets. We'll discuss a variety of topics in the process of going through examples of balanced budgets. We'll consider planning for revenue from merchandise sales, sponsorships, vendor fees, and expenses from manager compensation, advertising, insurance. Add a cash flow timeline to your budget, so you can better evaluate things like your options for vendor payment timing (eg, 1 time vs weekly, and pre-payment discount amounts)? Bring your questions.
