Boosting SNAP & DUFB Sales by Enhancing Shopper Experience

Portland Farmers Market, in collaboration with OFMA, will host a series of three webinars for market vendors this winter. These engaging sessions aim to make Oregon's farmers markets welcoming for every visitor, thereby increasing vendor success.

In our January webinar, Mallory Watson, Program Manager with Farmers Market Fund, will facilitate a session about how shopper experience influences SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks participation and purchases at farmers markets.

We’ll explore simple, shopper-centered approaches that work in real market settings, and how small changes can strengthen community connections and program use.

Vendors who participate in the webinar will come away with…

  • An understanding of state of hunger in Oregon today, and how we got here

  • Information about trauma and how it shows up for people when accessing food

  • A clearer sense of how SNAP and DUFB programs work day to day

  • Ways to talk about accepted benefits at the booth

  • Ideas for layout and signage that help purchasing feel easy

There will be time during the session for breakout groups, reflection, discussion, and questions.

This workshop was initially developed for market managers in 2022, with input and guidance from the Partners for a Hunger Free Oregon SNAP Client Advisory Board, and has been adapted to be relevant for market vendors and their staff.
